The Pink Wave: Surge of Female Candidates in 2018

May 2, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 6:45 pm

** You must RSVP for this event on Eventbrite. An RSVP on Facebook does not guarantee your seat. **

More women than ever before have declared their candidacies for public office, leading many pundits to label 2018 the Year of the Woman. So what factors are driving this so-called “pink wave”? How did first-time candidates fare in the primaries, and how is this narrative playing out in the generals? What are the implications of this political wave – both in this congressional cycle and beyond?

Join the IOP as we welcome a panel of experts to discuss this national trend:

– Kelly Ayotte, former U.S. Senator (R-NH) and current Visiting Pritzker Fellow at the IOP
– Katie Packer Beeson, founding partner of Burning Glass Consulting, former Deputy Campaign Manager for Romney/Ryan 2012
– Lauren Underwood, candidate for U.S. Congress in the IL-14 district

This conversation will be moderated by Amy Walter, National Editor of The Cook Political Report and member of the IOP’s Board of Advisors.

This event is free and open to UChicago students, faculty, staff and the public. This venue has limited physical accessibility and has a gender-neutral restroom.
