Chicago-area Women Mobilize Against TrumpCare with
National Peer-to-Peer Phone Banks
Chicago Women Take Action/ Indivisible IL and other activists lend voices to other states to assure “ no” vote on Obamacare repeal
CHICAGO —With Illinois’ senators committed to saving the ACA, Chicago Women Take Action, Indivisible and others are using on-line tools and cell phones to lend their time and voices to ensure the defeat of the Graham-Cassidy bill – the latest threat. Using an online tool called TrumpCare Ten activists from Illinois are calling peers in Alaska, Arizona, Maine and Colorado to urge them to call their senators and press for opposition to the bill.
Phone-calling groups are being organized in Chicago neighborhoods including Pilsen, Andersonville, Hyde Park and Old Irving Park as well as in surrounding areas such as Evanston, Hoffman Estates and Oak Park. Those interested in joining can find a phone bank nearby or contact Indivisible Illinois or Chicago Women Take Action on their websites.
“We are all painfully aware that what happens to those of us in Illinois is very much dependent on what senators in other states do. Our work, therefore, is not simply to move Illinois’ senators – who have been on the right side of the issue all along – but to help activists in other states win over their senators as well”, says Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth of Indivisible and CWTA. We’re all in this together”.
