STOP THE KILLING OF OUR CHILDREN
Chicago Women Take Action (CWTA) joins the people of Chicago and the country in grieving with the family of Laquan McDonald. We also respect their request for peaceful protests. Laquan now belongs to history and nothing can bring him back. But there must be justice. As we wait for the outcome of the trial we still have a right to know why it took so long for an arrest and indictment when the video of Laquan’s shooting was available from the night it happened. We laud those who pressed for a release of the video but the public has a right to know why the video was not released sooner and why there is no audio. Videos like this are routinely released after incidents occur. There must be accountability from our city government officials and police department for the way our fellow citizens are policed.
As women we give life and nurture life then have to stand by as our children are being killed. We can stop this only if we come together—women from all across the city, recognizing that Laquan is our son too. CWTA marches in solidarity with all those working to end the killing of our children.
CWTA is a city-wide group of diverse women of all ages working on issues that impact us and our communities. For more information visit http://chicagowomentakeaction.com
